Against The Grain: Working For The Public Interest

Oregon’s attorney general, the founder of a Corvallis youth project, a federal judge from Eugene and the Portland attorney behind the Oregon Bus Project will keynote Against the Grain: Working for the Public Interest, a free all-day conference on Friday, October 1 at the Knight Law Center, 1515 Agate Street Eugene.

Panels of elected officials, judges, public agency staff attorneys, and attorneys in private practice will talk about public service opportunities in criminal law, environmental law, social advocacy and as lawmakers.

The conference will explore the myriad opportunities available for lawyers interested in careers in law in the public interest and public service sectors. This is the first of four conferences that will be sponsored in 2004-05 by the University of Oregon School of Law’s Public Interest/Public Service (PIPS) Program. PIPS is an umbrella organization within the law school whose aim is to develop understanding of the value of public interest and service work nationally and globally.
