ABOUT THE 2004 DUCK DASH

Now in its sixth year, the Duck Dash has become the official run of the UO’s homecoming festivities. This year, it will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 at Hayward Field. Runners, walkers and wheelchair racers will get an early start to game day activities on a course that winds its way through the UO and ends behind the Knight Law Center at 15th and Agate on the east side of campus.

The event is named in honor of Tom Foster, an avid runner, who was a third-year law student at the University of Oregon when he died suddenly in 1999. Fellow editors at the school’s Journal of Environmental Law and Litigation (JELL) started a scholarship in his name and organized a memorial race to raise money for the fund.

The race is jointly sponsored by the University of Oregon School of Law and JELL. Participants may register online at http://www.goodrace.com.

Racers of all abilities are invited to enter either the 5K race or the 2K fun walk. Prizes are awarded for first-place male and female finishers and age division winners. Random prize drawings are also held after the race.

ABOUT TOM FOSTER AND THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND:

At the time of his death, Tom Foster served as executive editor for JELL. Tom was an athlete who ran, skied and played soccer. He was also passionate about fly-fishing. Tom was a popular member of the Class of 2000 who was awarded his law degree posthumously because he had earned enough credits to graduate.

Foster’s scholarship assists a third-year law student who embodies his character, emphasis on community service and personal integrity. Send contributions to: Tom Foster Scholarship Fund, 1221 University of Oregon, Eugene, OR 97403-1221 or call (541) 346-3865.
