Oregon Law Students’ Pro Bono Achievements to be Celebrated at Recognition Ceremony on April 10; Hon. Mustafa Kasubhai to Keynote
EUGENE — Thursday, April 10, at 5:00 p.m. in the Wayne Morse Commons of the Knight Law Center, Oregon Law’s Pro Bono Program will celebrate its students’ seventh consecutive victory in the Oregon State Bar’s Annual Pro Bono Challenge. The recipient of the Nicole Richardson Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award will also be announced during the ceremony. The Honorable Mustafa Kasubhai, Lane County Circuit Court Judge and 1996 graduate of Oregon Law, will deliver the keynote speech.
Each year Oregon Law students directly help many underserved individuals by volunteering for nonprofit organizations, Legal Aid programs, public defender,s and many others. In calendar year 2007, Oregon Law students have earned top honors in the Pro Bono Challenge by contributing 10,487 volunteer hours. Oregon Law provided an an outstanding public service, posting more than 71 percent of the total law student pro bono hours for the entire state. Second-year Oregon Law student Kevin Parks also won the 2007 Pro Bono Challenge’s individual category, donating more than 720 volunteer hours.
The recognition ceremony, which will include refreshments, will be held at the Knight Law Center’s Wayne Morse Commons, 1515 Agate Street in Eugene.
