Class of ’89 Steering Committee Member Cynthia Easterday Appointed to the Bench
Oregon Law is delighted to congratulate alumna Cynthia (Smith) Easterday ’89 on her recent appointment to the Yamhill County Circuit Court. She will replace the late Judge Carol Jones for the remainder of a six-year term ending December 31, 2010.
Easterday is a private practice McMinnville attorney who previously spent 16 years with the district attorney’s office, serving as chief deputy district attorney from November 1994 to July 2006 and interim district attorney from October to December 1996. Prior to joining the firm of Haugeberg, Rueter, Gowell, Fredricks, Higgins & McKeegan, she spent a year with the Oregon State Bar’s Client Assistance Office investigating complaints against attorneys. While in private practice, Easterday handled cases involving civil litigation, contested probate filings, domestic relations, and criminal defense.
Easterday joins District 25 bench members John Collins, Ronald Stone, and Oregon Law Class of 1964 alumnus Cal Tichenor. While on the bench, she will focus on family law with an emphasis on delinquency and dependency cases.
Easterday will be sworn in at a ceremony later in June.
In addition to her professional work, Easterday also serves as a steering committee member for the Oregon Law Class of 1989.
