Goldman Prize Winner Pablo Fajardo to Present ‘Jungle Law: Battling Chevron-Texaco in the Ecuadorian Amazon’ August 26
The Wayne Morse Center, along with Eugene-based Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide (ELAW), will host a presentation by Pablo Fajardo at noon, Wednesday, August 26, in Knight Law Center 110.
Fajardo, the lead attorney in the Ecuadorian Amazon case against Chevron-Texaco, will present, “Jungle Law: Battling Chevron-Texaco in the Ecuadorian Amazon.” Fajardo has waged an unprecedented 15-year community-driven legal battle against the global oil giant in response to what has been called one of the most catastrophic environmental disasters in human history.
Fajardo resides in one of the affected communities and was born the same year that Chevron-Texaco began extracting oil in Ecuador.
Fajardo is a 2008 Goldman Prize recipient and received the CNN Heros Award in 2007. His work has been featured in Vanity Fair‘s 2007 Green Issue and in the 2009 documentary, “CRUDE: The Real Price of Oil.”
Fajardo, an ELAW partner, also will be a guest speaker from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 27, at the Lord Leebrick Theater in downtown Eugene. For more information, visit the ELAW Web site.
