Suzanne Chanti ’88 to be Inaugurated as Lane County Circuit Court Judge February 22

The investiture of Suzanne Chanti ’88 as Lane County Circuit Court judge will take place at 4:00 p.m. Monday, February 22, at Harris Hall in the Lane County Courthouse and Public Service Building.

In January, Gov. Ted Kulongoski announced that Chanti was selected to succeed Gregory Foote ’72 as Lane County Circuit Court judge. Foote retired at the end of 2009 after 32 years on the bench.

Chanti began practicing law in the same year she received her degree from Oregon Law. Her practice has focused on employment discrimination cases based on sex, race, and disability. Chanti was a member of the legal team that represented professional golfer, and UO head men’s golf coach, Casey Martin in his successful Americans with Disabilities Act case against the PGA Tour that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Martin, who suffers from a congenital circulatory disorder in his right leg, won the right to use a golf cart in competition.
