Federalist Society to Host Debate Between Professor Ofer Raban and Alan Gura

Oregon Law’s Federalist Society chapter will host a debate between Professor Ofer Raban and Alan Gura on the jurisprudence of McDonald v. City of Chicago (2010), also known as “The Chicago Gun Case.”

Mr. Gura is lead counsel in McDonald v. City of Chicago, which asks whether a handgun ban, and other aspects of gun registration regulations affecting rifles and shotguns, in Chicago is unconstitutional. He argued the case before the United States Supreme Court on March 2.

In 2008, Mr. Gura represented Dick Heller in the U.S. Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008). He successfully argued that portions of Washington D.C.’s Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975 violate the individual right to keep and bear arms protected by the Second Amendment.

The debate takes place at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, in Knight Law Center 175. Please RSVP to Allison Jordan.
