Wayne Morse Center to Host Governor Ted Kulongoski April 14
Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski will travel to Eugene to speak as a guest of the Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics. Gov. Kulongoski’s discussion will take place at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, in Knight Law Center 175. A reception for the governor will follow at 4:30 p.m. in the Lewis Lounge.
Gov. Kulongoski’s presentation, “Addressing Climate Change: The Right Policy is also the Smart Policy,” is part of the Morse Center’s speaker series, “Great Expectations: Obama and the Politics of Reform,” which is co-sponsored by the UO Political Science Department. The talk will explore how climate policy can address issues of social equity and environmental stewardship, as well as foster economic development and energy security.
In 2007, Gov. Kulongoski took the lead on renewable energy by establishing a new standard that requires 25 percent of the state’s electricity to come from renewable sources by 2025. During the 2009 legislative session, he passed several bills that encourage greater energy efficiency and investments in renewable energy.
