Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics to Celebrate Anniversaries Nov. 19
The Center celebrates its 10th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of the Wayne Morse Chair
The Wayne Morse Center is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics and the 30th Anniversary of the Wayne Morse Chair on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 at 2 p.m. in 110 Knight Law Center at the University of Oregon.
The celebration will bring together former chairholders and others who have helped shape and uphold the legacy of former Oregon Senator Wayne Morse through the work of the center.
The event kicks off with a symposium featuring former Wayne Morse chairholders Frances Fox Piven, Ray Marshall, and W. Richard West, Jr., as well as A. Robert Smith, author of The Tiger of the Senate, a political biography of Senator Morse. The symposium will be followed by a reception honoring those who have been instrumental in the history of the Morse Center.
“The Wayne Morse Center aims to make the principles for which Senator Morse stood relevant to the next generation. Morse sought peace with justice through law and politics and demanded clear thinking in policy affairs, and he always sought the truth. Many current issues, from war to environmental degradation, can be examined with these principles in mind,” said Margaret Hallock, director of the Wayne Morse Center.
