November is Mediation Month in Oregon

Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber and Secretary of State Kate Brown signed a proclamation in September declaring November as Mediation Month in Oregon. The proclamation recognizes the University of Oregon School of Law’s Appropriate Dispute Resolution Center as one of a variety of organizations that provide and support mediation and dispute resolution service to the people of Oregon. The proclamation notes that the use of these programs, like ADR, makes Oregon a leader in providing resolution opportunities for communities, schools and families.

In recognition of Mediation Month, the 25th annual conference of the Oregon Mediation Association will be held in Portland on Nov. 4-5, 2011. This conference will promote the use of mediation, and will present a variety of school-based initiatives that promote non-violent conflict resolution approaches. Gov. Kitzhaber and Secretary Brown encourage all Oregonians to join in the observance of Mediation Month.
