Eye on Earth is a global summit meeting focused on the issue of greater access to environmental and societal data for those who need it. The summit claims access to environmental knowledge is critical. As a result of inaccurate decision-making caused by the lack of useable quality data, emerging economies in particular are losing valuable environmental assets. Eye on Earth will address this challenge by convening world leaders, the environmental and societal information networking movement and others to celebrate ‘best-impact’ data initiatives from around the globe, converge on key issues to reach consensus on solutions to greater data accessibility and collaborate to strengthen existing initiatives and, where necessary, to launch new ones.
Kravchenko is the keynote speaker for the Civil Society forum, taking place just prior to the official start of Eye on Earth. Her presentation is titled “Opportunities for civil society engagement beyond the Summit.” Kravchenko also will serve as a judge for “Competing Visions” — a debate on access to information.
Oregon Law Professor John Bonine also will be in attendance at the summit, speaking on “Theory and Practice of Networks.”
Eye on Earth is facilitated by the Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative (AGEDI), and hosted by Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Learn more about the summit at www.eyeonearthsummit.org.
