Bryan Boender ’12 discusses student loan debt with U.S. Senator Ron Wyden ’74
Recent University of Oregon School of Law graduate Bryan Boender participated in a roundtable discussion with U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, a 1974 Oregon Law alumnus, about the increasing burdens of student loan debt. The roundtable took place May 30 at the UO’s Knight Library.
A dozen UO students joined in the discussion, which also included UO President Robert Berdahl and Director for Financial Aid and Scholarships Jim Brooks.
Boender, a military veteran who served in Afghanistan, is a Tillman Military Scholar. Boender intends to enter public interest law practice, the same field of law in which his wife practices. Because this field of law does not tend to pay as much as other fields, Boender expressed a need for more robust public interest repayment options.
Sen. Wyden, impressed by Boender’s thoughts on loan repayment options for public interest lawyers, acknowledged the importance of public interest work and that he would continue to fight for individuals, such as Boender and his wife, in Congress.
