Oregon Law Hosts a Presentation on Entertainment Law

On Oct. 29 the University of Oregon School of Law hosted a lunchtime question and answer session with Hollywood-based music industry attorney Guy Blake. The event was held in Room 142 of the Knight Law Center from 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m.

Blake is a partner at Davis Shapiro Lewit & Hayes (DSLH). This firm has offices in New York City and Beverly Hills and handles legal matters within the entertainment industry. DSLH works with a variety of people in the music industry, including new acts as well as large entertainment companies. Notable clients include Ludacris, Kanye West and Gotye.

Blake received his B.A. from the University of Oregon and his law degree at Pepperdine University School of Law. Prior to working for DSLH, Blake was the Senior Vice President of Legal & Business Affairs at Warner/Chappell Music. Blake supervised all aspects of negotiation and drafting of the company’s clients. He has also served as the instructor of the UCLA Extension Course, “The Nuts and Bolts of Music Publishing.” Currently at DSLH Blake is specifically working on issues relating to music publishing, reality television and intellectual property.

In addition to this event, the Sports and Entertainment Law Forum, the law school student group focused on sports and entertainment law, will hold a conference in Portland on Friday, February 22, 2013.
