Love@OregonLaw: Sharlei and Ben
Sometimes you get a lot more than a J.D. after three years of law school. This year, to commemorate Valentine's Day, Oregon Law asked alumni to submit stories of how they met their spouse or significant other while attending law school. Read on to learn the stories of seven couples who found Love@OregonLaw.
Sharlei Hsu '11, and Ben Veralrud '12, met through mutual friends while Ben was still a prospective Oregon Law student and Sharlei was in her 1L year. After Ben accepted admission to Oregon Law, the two began to spend more time together as friends.
“It was a standing joke between us that in his 1L year, he was obligated to carry my books around for me since I would be a big bad 2L,” said Sharlei.
Once Ben began attending Oregon Law as a 1L, their friendship developed into a romantic relationship. Together, the pair served on Moot Court Board; traveled to Tempe, Ariz., to cheer on the Ducks in the National Championship game; and created countless memories. Now, more than three years later, Ben and Sharlei live together in Portland, Ore., pursuing their budding legal careers and, in the words of Sharlei, "still facing challenges and still have fun doing so."
