Family Law Policy

Spring 2013 • LAW 610 • Credits: 2

Instructor: Merle Weiner

Examines the current state of the family and family trends, and considers the implications of these facts for family law policy, in particular the process of policy formation, implementation, evaluation and advocacy. Explores social science research and practice that is germane to legal policy as well as the methods through which empirical research findings may influence case law and legislation (amicus curiae and policy briefs). Analyzes effects various policies and programs can have on different types of families, and on adults and children as groups. No Pre-reqs; however, Family Law strongly recommended.
