A Day at the Court: A Visit to Lane County Circuit Court

Are you interested in criminal law, civil litigation, or domestic relations? Are you interested in trial practice? Do you wonder what the inside of a courtroom really looks like? If you answered yes, or even maybe, to any of these questions, please join the Career Center staff at our local courthouse. The event will begin with a talk from a Circuit Court judge. You will then observe a number of matters from the "Show Cause" docket. After the hearings, the judge will talk with you about the proceedings and his rulings. RSVP on Symplicity.

Lane County Circuit Court Presiding Judge Karsten Rasmussen and Judge Josehpine Mooney will discuss the benefits of spending a year as a trial clerk. They will also discuss the application process and what they look for in an applicant.

The court is now accepting applications for one-year clerkships starting in Fall 2013. The deadline to apply is December 10.

Africa's Development Challenges: A Focus on Corporate Accountability in the Chad-Cameroon Pipeline Project

Africa is categorized by the United Nations Development Programme as being the poorest continent in terms of development. The World Bank and other institutions attest to this. To come out of this, African countries are encouraging Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) by inviting Transnational Companies (TNCs) which bring enormous challenges. Ekontang Makia will discuss human rights and environmental challenges of TNCs with a focus on the Chad-Cameroon pipeline project. Hosted by the Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics. Lunch will be served.
