The Asian Pacific American Law Student Association invites everyone to a showing of the Academy Award-nominated documentary: Who Killed Vincent Chin?

This film recounts the murder of Vincent Chin, an automotive engineer mistaken as Japanese who was slain by an assembly line worker who blamed him for the competition by the Japanese auto makers that were threatening his job. It then recounts how that murderer escaped justice in the court system. (IMDB Summary)

By the mid 1970s, a "coal coalition" of coal producers, oil and gas, metals, electric utilities, railroads, and commercial banks emerged producing coordinated efforts against threats to their profits from environmental regulation. This talk will examine subsequent changes in the political economy of the coal industry and its position within the larger corporate power structure and think tanks of US policy formation network. Mapping coal within this network yields a better understanding of the problems of environmental regulation today.
