If you are interested in participating in an Oregon Law clinic this summer or in the 2014-15 academic year you must apply through a lottery called “the clinic draw.” The goal of the clinic draw process is to give all students equal access to clinical experiences.

Students must complete a Clinic Preference Form online, which is available on MyLaw. Forms must be submitted by April 4, 2014 at 2:00p. No late submissions will be accepted.

Join us for a lunchtime chat with Jennifer Thompson, co-author of Picking Cotton: Our Memoir of Injustice and Redemption. A memoir co-written by the victim of a brutal rape and the person she mistakenly identified as her attacker, recounting their experiences in the criminal justice system. After Jennifer Thompson identified Ronald Cotton as her rapist, he spent eleven years in prison before being exonerated by DNA evidence. Thompson and Cotton now lecture together about wrongful convictions, forgiveness, and criminal justice reform.

Talk features Oregon Muslim attorney Brandon Mayfield who was wrongfully arrested in 2004 by the FBI in connection to the Madrid Train Bombings and subsequently released. Mayfield, who was subject to intensive FBI surveillance after a faulty fingerprint match linked him to the Spain terrorist attacks, has warned of what can go wrong with unchecked governmental spying. Also featuring attorney Tom Nelson, who is currently challenging the government's "no-fly" list and torture-by-proxy of a former Portland resident.
