Drug criminalization imposes major social and economic costs upon the United States each year. The importance of a thoughtful evaluation of our nation's punitive approach is clear. Oregon Law Review's symposium will thoroughly examine this topic, discussing unresolved issues of federalism presented by recent state initiatives, the costs and benefits of our nation's drug laws, and the successful elements of alternative regimes of other nations. Speakers include Judge James Gray, Judge Steven Alm, Dr. Beau Kilmer, and Professor Mark Tushnet.
