How can video documentation of injustices, such as cell phone videos, be used as evidence in court and other forums for human rights advocacy? Learn from examples in Syria and other locations across the globe where video has been used to secure prosecutions of the guilty or exonerations of the innocent.

The event features University of Oregon School of Law alumna Kelly Matheson, who is senior attorney and program manager for WITNESS, an international human rights organization that specializes in using video to support change in human rights practice, policy and law. Matheson is an attorney, filmmaker and human rights activist.

"Alternative Sovereignties" Conference

This conference on "Alternative Sovereignties" examines American Indian/First Nations politics, education, and political activism. It will include 60 speakers, including supervisors of Indigenous studies programs (including Indigenous law)and representatives from six Oregon tribal communities. It opens with a dinner and keynote panel on May 8 and continues all day on May 9.

Fredrik Logevall is a Pulitzer Prize winning historian of the Vietnam War and an alumnus of the University of Oregon. He is John S. Knight Professor of International Studies at Cornell University, where he also serves as vice provost for international affairs and director of the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies. Logevall’s most recent book Embers of War: The Fall of an Empire and the Making of America’s Vietnam, won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for History.
