ALERT FOR 1LS: Diversity Programs Offer Unique Summer Opportunity
Published in the November 15, 2011, Advisor
Large law firms around the country – including in Oregon, Washington, and California – offer summer positions for 1Ls from diverse backgrounds. The positions generally pay quite well, and many also come with an academic scholarship.
If you think you might qualify, you should apply for these opportunities. At this time, this is almost the only way for a 1L student to land a summer opportunity with a large national or international law firm.
Each law firm posts hiring criteria, but in general the firms are looking for individuals who will bring diversity to their organization; who earned strong grades in college and (the first semester of) law school; and who are involved in their community.
Look at Symplicity, search the NALP directory and law firm websites, or ask a career counselor in our office for help finding these opportunities. Application procedures and deadlines vary slightly by firm; most deadlines are in mid-January.
