Megan McAlpin graduated summa cum laude from Western Oregon University and received her law degree from Willamette University. She was a member of both the Willamette Law Review and the Willamette Journal of International Law and Dispute Resolution. She clerked for the Oregon Department of Justice and later practiced in the areas of business and litigation. At Oregon, she has taught Legal Research and Writing I and II, Legal Drafting, Intensive Writing, and Advanced Legal Research. She was recently named Oregon Law's Director of Externships and Clinics.
Professor McAlpin has worked on major committees for both the Association of Legal Writing Directors and the Legal Writing Institute, including conference planning committees for both organizations and the LWI New Member Outreach Committee. She served as assistant editor on the LWI Journal, Legal Writing. She is co-chair of the 2012 Western Regional Legal Writing Conference, held at Oregon Law. She is publishing a book on writing, Beyond the First Draft: Editing and Other Strategies for Powerful Legal Writing (Carolina Academic Press 2013). She also writes columns for The Legal Writer in the Oregon State Bar Bulletin.
