January 12th 2008 • Printer version Oregon Law Welcomes Richard Delgado and Jean Stefancic as Wayne Morse Center
Visiting Distinguished Scholars
Richard Delgado is a triple pioneer. He was the first to question free speech ideology; he and a few others invented critical race theory; and he is both a theorist and an exemplar of the importance of storytelling in the workings of the law. This volume brings all of Delgados strengths together in a stunning performance. Professor Stefancic is Research Professor of Law & Derrick Bell Scholar at
the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where she writes about civil rights,
law reform, social change, and legal scholarship. Her book, No Mercy: How Conservative Think Tanks and Foundations Changed Americas
Social Agenda, won critical praise in the nonlegal as well as legal community. She has written and co-authored numerous articles and ten books, many with Professor
Delgado, with whom she shared a 1993 Rockefeller Bellagio grant to complete their
1994 book, Failed Revolutions. Their 1997 book, Critical White Studies: Looking Behind the Mirror, won a Gustavus
Myers award for outstanding book on human rights in North American in 1998. In 2001, the Bogliasco Foundation awarded Professor Stefancic a residency at
the Liguria Study Center to write How Lawyers Lose Their Way. Professors Stefancic and Delgado serve as co-editors for the New York University
Press series Critical America.
