Eugene, Ore. Lawyer Frank Alderson ’51 passed away on July 27, 2012 at the age of 86. Alderson served in the Navy in World War II and was stationed at Enewetak Atoll, Marshall Islands in the South Pacific. After the war, he came to the University of Oregon School of Law to pursue his law degree.
Directly after graduating from law school, Alderson served as a district attorney for Klamath County from 1951 to 1955, and was the assistant district attorney for Lane County from 1955 until his appointment by Governor Mark Hatfield to the State District Court bench in 1961. Judge Alderson served on the bench for 31 years until he retired in 1992.
Fern Eng ’81, a Eugene, Ore. lawyer who for 30 years represented businesses and individuals in need, passed away on August 17, 2012. She was 61. Eng was born in Toishan, China and eventually married John Volmert in Lane County 26 years later. She graduated from Stanford University in 1973 before attending the University of Oregon. She and her husband eventually had a son, Justin Volmert, who currently resides in San Francisco, Calif.
