Alumna becomes state's first female attorney general
Oregon Law alumna Ellen Rosenblum ’75 was appointed by Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber to fill the attorney general vacancy left by outgoing Attorney General John Kroger. The announcement was made Wednesday, June 6.

Rosenblum was sworn in as the state’s first female attorney general on Friday, June 29.
Rosenblum earned her law degree from the University of Oregon and began practicing law in 1975 at a small firm in Eugene. In 1980, she became an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, and in 1989 was appointed to the Multnomah County District Court and later joined the Multnomah County Circuit Court. Rosenblum served as a judge on the Oregon Court of Appeals from 2005 to 2011, presiding over thousands of cases impacting Oregon citizens and businesses. Throughout her career, Rosenblum has been a strong advocate for access to justice and diversity. She has managed and presided over thousands of criminal and civil cases. Her areas of emphasis have included trial and appellate advocacy, business and consumer litigation, administrative law, criminal constitutional law, as well as family law, including juvenile delinquency and dependency cases.
Rosenblum is a recipient of Oregon Law’s Meritorious Service Award and Frohnmayer Award for Public Service. She was nominated as the Democratic candidate for Attorney General in the May Primary Election. She will fill the remainder of the outgoing attorney general’s term.
