Lauren Charles named assistant director of admissions

Alumna returns to Eugene, begins work this summer

The University of Oregon School of Law is pleased to welcome Assistant Director of Admissions Lauren Charles. She began in her new position on Monday, June 17.

Charles is a 2011 Oregon Law graduate. She earned her undergraduate degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University and received her master's degree in historic preservation from Pratt Institute in New York.

"We were fortunate that the pool had many strong candidates. Lauren was selected because of her unique skill set and direct understanding of the School of Law, both as a student and as a former Admissions Office student staff member," said Professor Susan Gary, chair of the search committee. "She has an intimate knowledge of the law school and its community that will allow her to communicate the benefits of an Oregon Law education to prospective and visiting or transfer students."

Prior to law school, Charles's work experience included interning with both the New York Landmarks Conservancy and the National Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington, D.C. She also worked with The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. While at Oregon Law, Charles was an active leader in the Oregon Law community. She served as minority outreach assistant for the Admissions Office and as 2010 PIELC co-director. Charles has externed with the Honorable Frank R. Alley of the United States Bankruptcy Court and served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Cynthia D. Carlson of the Lane County Circuit Court. Charles is a member of the Oregon State Bar and most recently practiced with the Clutch Group in Washington, D.C.

Charles, a Louisiana native, is excited to be back in Eugene and back at Oregon Law.

"I'm thrilled to be joining the Admissions team at Oregon Law," Charles said. "I valued working with the Admissions staff as a student and I look forward to contributing to the learning environment of the School of Law."
