OLSPIF History
In the early 1990s, a group of law students joined a growing movement nationwide to raise funds so that their peers could accept public service summer employment that otherwise would be unpaid. At Oregon Law, the first Oregon Law Students Public Interest Fund Annual Auction began in 1994 sparking a long and successful tradition of spirited fundraising. With strong student, faculty, and community support, the OLSPIF Annual Auction enjoys a rich history of success with Oregon Law students dedicating thousands of hours working in service positions. In 1996, Professor Tom Lininger began his incomparable service as OLSPIF Emcee and Auctioneer, elevating the auction’s success to new heights.
In 2010, OLSPIF made a strategic decisions to take its fundraising to the next level by moving the auction off campus, to the Eugene Country Club to encourage greater participation by the local bar and alumni. This decision has resulted in two record-breaking fundraising years and has seen a resurgence in attorney participation in the OLSPIF auction. In 2011, OLSPIF issued a record 15 stipends, and in 2012, a record 16 stipends. We anticipate continued expansion of the auction and attorney participation!
