American Bar Association Law Student Division

The American Bar Association Law Student Division (“ABA/LSD”) provides the first exposure for many law students to the ABA, the largest organization of lawyers in the United States, with approximately 350,000 members.

For a modest fee, students receive ABA membership, complete with a subscription to the ABA Journal, and the privilege of joining the ABA’s special interest sections. Membership also provides discounts for various services, including materials for the Preliminary Multistate Bar Review, health and life insurance, and car rentals. Division members also receive one year of free ABA membership after graduation. The ABA/LSD has its own journal, The Student Lawyer. It is the only national magazine directed exclusively to law students. A subscription is included in the membership fee. Division members can become involved in the governing bodies of national ABA sections as student liaisons, or run for regional circuit governing positions within the ABA/LSD.

The Oregon Law chapter of ABA/LSD sponsors lectures and panel discussions on issues in legal practice.
