As Associate General Counsel, Sports Marketing, Matt has principal responsibility for providing comprehensive legal support for NIKE's Football/Baseball/Athletic Training business category which includes drafting and negotiating corporate sponsorship agreements and retail product licenses with the National Football League and Major League Baseball and their respective member teams, and both the NFL and MLB players unions, as well as providing legal issue management in connection with those league and PA relationships. In addition, Matt similarly supports NIKE's partnerships with collegiate athletic programs and coaches, and endorsement relationships with athletes principally in the NFL and Major League Baseball and on the PGA Tour.
Before joining NIKE in 2011, Matt practiced law for four years in California in the areas of corporate, IP, and sports, media and entertainment. Prior to attending law school, Matt spent a year at global sports agency Octagon where he pursued endorsement, marketing and appearance opportunities for Octagon’s NFL player clients. Matt received his J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2007, and Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of California, Davis in 2003.
