Public Law and Policy Program

Turning Your Passions into a Lifetime of Success

Imagine a law school dedicated to public service—in the classroom, community, and workplace. A school so well situated that public interest and public sector employers readily identify its students and graduates as passionate and prepared for public policy and public interest careers. Oregon Law provides all the support you need—and more—to turn your passion for service into a lifetime of success.

At Oregon Law, public service is a way of life and we are committed to turning your dreams of serving the public into reality. Building on a strong foundation of inspired course offerings, clinics, career planning support and service opportunities, we prepare our students for success in public interest and public sector careers.  In fact, Oregon Law graduates accept public service employment at a rate that far exceeds the national average.

Oregon Law’s academic offerings enable students to earn a Concentration in either Public Interest Law or Law and Public Policy.  Students may also earn a Certificate for Pro Bono Service.  Students may earn Concurrent Degrees in Public Administration and Law (J.D./M.P.A.) and Community & Regional Planning and Law (J.D./M.C.R.P.).  Our competitive Public Policy and Government 1L Fellowship Program provides incoming 1L students the opportunity to work alongside leading law school faculty members on law and public policy-related research, and offers outstanding networking opportunities with prominent leaders, attorneys, and policy makers. An array of clinics and externships deepen students’ practical experience in public law.

Opportunities for service abound at Oregon Law. Our award winning Pro Bono Program connects law students to legal service providers to do hands-on, law-related work for clients in need. The Oregon Law Students Public Interest Fund provides valuable summer stipends for law students allowing them to work for organizations that serve some of our most vulnerable populations. The Public Interest Public Service Student Group hosts inspirational programs on vital public service topics and performs community service projects. To support our graduates who pursue public service careers, the Loan Repayment Assistance Program distributes forgivable loans to qualifying applicants for up to three years.

From rich academics to meaningful career development, Oregon Law is the public service school in the Northwest for students building a future in service to the public!
