Criminal Justice Externship Course - PDX

This is the mandatory classroom component for criminal-practice externships. It is repeatable for students who enroll in qualifying field placements for multiple semesters. Topics rotate depending on repeat enrollment, but may include: self assessment and evaluation, confidentiality, prosecutorial charging discretion, victims??? rights, advocacy, legal research and reasoning, plea bargaining, client/witness interviewing, counseling, and relationships, discovery, strategy and case theory, fact investigation, development, and analysis, the practice and parameters of the profession, the legal and professional responsibilities of lawyers in the criminal-justice system, negotiation and conflict resolution, trial practice, organization and management of legal work, collaboration, cultural competency, statutory interpretation, leadership and communication, and constructing a legal career.
