Dean Jennifer W. Reynolds Headshot

Jennifer Reynolds is dean and Dave Frohnmayer Chair in Leadership & Law at the University of Oregon School of Law.

As dean, her priorities are centering student success, particularly with respect to academic excellence, financial wellness, and community building; raising the academic profile of the law school, including extending the reach of faculty research; and promoting the public-minded legacy of Oregon Law among students, faculty, and alumni. She believes that Oregon Law has a responsibility to the citizens of Oregon to support public education around civics, law, conflict resolution, and structures of democratic governance.

Dean Reynolds is an expert in negotiation and conflict management, and her research interests include mediation, dispute systems design, and cultural influences and implications of alternative processes. She has written numerous articles and book chapters on negotiation and mediation process and ethics, with special focus on the justice concerns that may arise in informal dispute management contexts. Recently, she has served as co-editor on the popular Star Wars & Conflict Resolution series and co-author on Lawyer Negotiation (with Jay Folberg) and Resolving Disputes: Theory, Practice, and Law (with Jay Folberg, Dwight Golann, Amy Schmitz, and Tom Stipanowich). Dean Reynolds is a dedicated teacher who has won the University of Oregon's Ersted Award for Distinguished Teaching and the law school's Orlando J. Hollis Teaching Award. Along with courses in negotiation and conflict resolution, she teaches civil procedure and conflict of laws and is a co-author of Civil Procedure: A Coursebook, with Joseph Glannon, Andy Perlman, and Peter Raven-Hansen.

Representative leadership roles for Dean Reynolds includes serving as the Faculty Director of the nationally-ranked, award-winning Oregon ADR Center; as Interim Ombudsperson for the University of Oregon; as the Chair of the ADR Section of the Association of American Law Schools; as Co-Chair of the Editorial Board of Dispute Resolution Magazine; and as a faculty blogger for the ADR professor blog, indisputably. Before law school, Dean Reynolds worked for seven years as a systems analyst and associate director for information technology at UT Austin. During law school, Dean Reynolds was an editor of the Harvard Law Review; a research assistant for Professor Arthur Miller on Federal Practice and Procedure; and a teaching assistant, researcher, and Harvard Negotiation Research Project Fellow for the Program on Negotiation. After law school, Reynolds was an associate at the Atlanta office of Dow Lohnes PLLC, working primarily on First Amendment and employment cases.

Dean Reynolds received her law degree cum laude from Harvard Law School, her master's degree in English from the University of Texas at Austin, and her bachelor's degree with honors from the University of Chicago. She has served as a visiting professor at the University of Missouri School of Law and at Harvard Law School.
