Impact Goal: Sustained Support for Oregon Law’s Highest Priorities

Looking ahead has long been part of Oregon Law's story. For more than 140 years, we have embraced new ideas, opened new possibilities, and shaped the future of legal education.

That spirit matters now more than ever. The needs of students are changing. The legal profession is evolving. And new challenges and opportunities are reshaping what it means to prepare lawyers for the future.

The Oregon Law Fund gives the law school the flexibility to keep moving forward, directing resources where they can make the greatest difference, advancing strategic priorities, and purse promising emerging opportunities.

TEACHING IN THE AGE OF TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE

As artificial intelligence changes legal education and practice, Oregon Law faculty across the curriculum are exploring how to prepare students to use AI ethically and effectively while still developing the judgment, professional skills, and independence essential to legal practice.

This work intersects with the faculty’s longstanding commitment to skillful, innovative teaching. For example, the Pedagogy Project, started by Clinical Professor Megan McAlpin, brings faculty together to share effective teaching strategies, examine how students learn, and consider ways teaching should evolve as new challenges emerge.

The Pedagogy Project encourages faculty to learn from one another and continually adapt their teaching to meet students’ needs. With AI, that work takes on new urgency, as faculty consider what AI’s growing role in legal practice means for what and how students learn.
