Oregon Law is sad to report that Dean’s Advisory Council Member and alumnus Kurt Hansen passed away on June 13. Kurt Hansen died after a brief illness, surrounded by his wife and loved ones. His contributions to the law school were invaluable, and he will be remembered as an honest, kind, and direct advisor who always had the law school’s best interests at heart.
Kurt Hansen joined Schwabe Williamson & Wyatt upon graduation and was with the firm for the entirety of his legal career. He was an avid UO supporter and actively participated in the Oregon Law’s Dean’s Advisory Council until his passing. He volunteered regularly by helping the law school’s Career Center, Admissions Office, and Development Office with student and alumni outreach and events. For many years before joining the Dean’s Advisory Council, he served as a board member of the Law School Alumni Association and taught health law as an adjunct professor. In addition to being an accomplished lawyer, Kurt served our country for many years in the Navy, attaining the rank of Captain. Kurt was most recently recalled to service during the Iraq War.
We are truly honored to have had the benefit of Kurt Hansen’s time, advice, and wisdom. We will feel this loss deeply at Oregon Law; and we are grateful for Kurt’s friendship, sharp wit, and loyal support.
