Eugene, Ore. – The University of Oregon School of Law is pleased to announce David F. Bartz, Jr., class of 1982, will be honored with the 2018 Frohnmayer Award for Public Service on April 20 in Portland, Ore. Bartz is chair emeritus and shareholder of the regional law firm Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt.
In nominating Bartz, his peers among alumni of Oregon Law highlighted his history of championing diversity in the legal profession, including service on the Oregon Department of Justice’s Access to Justice Committee and on the Oregon State Bar’s Affirmative Action Committee. He has also served on the board of the Urban League of Portland and as a representative to Oregon’s Air Toxic Advisory Committee. Additionally, Bartz is a passionate supporter of the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society. His extraordinary efforts to advance diversity, to elevate the economic, social, educational, and political aspirations of minorities, and to advance the success of women and minority attorneys in Oregon has been recognized by Oregon Women Lawyers, by the World Arts Foundation, by the Oregon League of Minority Voters, and the Oregon State Bar.
The Frohnmayer Award for Public Service was established in 2002 by the Law School Alumni Association and is named in honor of the family of University of Oregon President Emeritus and Law Professor Dave Frohnmayer. This prestigious award recognizes a graduate, faculty member, or friend of Oregon Law whose public service brings honor to the school. Past honorees include Judge Nan Waller '79, U.S. Senator Ron Wyden '74, Judge David Schuman '84, Justice Martha Walters '77, John VanLandingham '77, Michael Schrunk '67, Duncan Campbell '73, Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum '75, Richard Meeker '74, Barbara Aldave, Justice Edwin Peterson '57, Justice Hans Linde, Judge Clifford Freeman '76, Lawrence "Lare" Aschenbrenner '57, Judge Alfred "Ted" Goodwin '51, Speaker Hardy Myers '64, and UO President Dave Frohnmayer.
