Oregon Law announces sponsorship for LawMeets® Summer 2020 Mergers and Acquisitions Boot Camp

(Eugene, Ore.) The Center for Career Planning & Professional Development at the School of Law is pleased to announce that as a result of generous support provided by the Nancy and Dave Petrone Business and Law Success Initiative Fund, up to twenty students will be sponsored to participate in the LawMeets® 2020 Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Boot Camp this summer.  Sponsorship includes covering the cost of participating in the Boot Camp plus a $2,000 stipend per student.

“We are grateful for Dave and Nancy Petrone’s gift to the law school,” Rebecca Ivanoff, Assistant Dean at the Center for Career Planning & Professional Development. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our students, and it will allow us to support those whose summer professional development plans have been impacted by COVID-19.”

The Boot Camp is a 10-week online program designed to teach deal skills to law students.  Students work in teams of two to draft, mark-up, and negotiate an acquisition agreement.  In the simulated leveraged buyout transaction, students interact with clients, senior lawyers, and opposing teams via video conference, email, and telephone. The Boot Camp will expose participants to M&A concepts, forms of agreement, and most importantly, senior practitioners, and their “know how”.

This is a great opportunity for students interested in business law. Prior knowledge of M&A is not required. Students will be provided with online instruction and content to learn the basics needed to approach each exercise.

The Boot Camp is being presented in association with the M&A Committee of the ABA Business Law Section. LawMeets® is recruiting expert judges from the 4,500 member ABA Business Law Section. Participating in this robust Boot Camp program will give students practical skill-building experience that can be highlighted in resumes, cover letters, and interviews.  In addition, by working closely with a volunteer coach, students have the opportunity to develop an important professional relationship with an experienced business attorney. Those with M&A experience wanting to volunteer to coach should email the Career Center.

To apply, students need to complete the M&A Boot Camp Application Form, and email their resume as well as a statement of interest to the Career Center at lawcareer@uoregon.edu.  The deadline to apply is Wednesday, May 13, 2020 by 5:00 pm.
