Dispute Resolution Concentration

Many legal problems can be solved before they ever go to court.

With its large number of clinics and skills courses, a concentration in Dispute Resolution is the ideal supplementary program for a hands-on, practice-based curriculum that provides you with the expertise needed to become skilled in resolving disputes and facilitating deals.

Our program offers you a wide variety of courses and clinics to choose from so that you can tailor the curriculum to serve your interests, from criminal procedure, to environmental and natural resources law, family and child law, or any other practice area.

Requirements 


Group A
To complete the requirements of the concentration, you must satisfactorily complete three (3) of the following courses:

  • LAW 722 ADR Litigation Strategy
  • LAW 724 Arbitration
  • LAW 610 Dispute Systems Design
  • LAW 707 Interviewing and Counseling
  • 742 Leadership Practices for Professional Success
  • CRES 616 Mediation
  • LAW 760 Negotiation
  • LAW 610 Plea Bargaining
  • Conflict and Dispute Resolution Master’s Courses
    (Law students are eligible to enroll in electives in the Master’s Program.)

Group B
You must also satisfactorily complete enough to total 6 when added to Group A:

  • LAW 762 Criminal Defense Clinic
  • LAW 764 Criminal Prosecution Clinic
  • LAW 766 Domestic Violence Civil Clinic
  • LAW 768 Domestic Violence Protective Order Clinic
  • LAW 770 Environmental Law Clinic
  • LAW 651 Trial Practice
  • UO grad level courses related to dispute resolution, with approval of certification committee

In addition to completing the curriculum referenced above, you must produce a high quality paper or project on the topic of dispute resolution.
